Northstar Digital Literacy is a Free Resource
Northstar Digital Literacy is an online platform that has self-directed assessments and lessons on basic technology skills as well as apps like Microsoft Office and Microsoft Docs. Northstar is free for all Highline College students.
You can now access Northstar via Canvas through a course appearing on your Canvas dashboard. To access Northstar, click on the course, click the Start The Program button at the bottom of the page, then click Load Northstar in a new window.
Northstar Online Learning is not a course you need to complete, it is a free and optional resource for you to use. If you are not interested in using Northstar, please click for instructions below.
Instructions for Removing Northstar Online From Your Canvas Dashboard
If you are not interested in using Northstar, you can remove the course from your Canvas dashboard. To remove the course click the 3 dot menu in the upper right corner of the course image, click on the Move tab, and click on Unfavorite, as seen in the screenshot here:
Northstar Online Learning
Northstar Online Learning is a free tool for Highline College students. It helps you learn computer skills.
Here's how it works:
You can take assessments to see what you already know.
The system then shows you what skills you need to improve.
You get lessons that focus on those skills.
You can do the lessons at your own speed.
You can also just do lessons without taking any assessments.
Northstar teaches many topics, including:
How to use a computer
How to use the internet
How to use email
How to use Windows or Mac computers
How to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
How to use Google Docs

Northstar can be accessed via mobile browsers, but not all features may be functional.
